Jackson Charitable Foundation, a nonprofit with the mission to advance financial knowledge on a national scale, today announced Trinity Lutheran School in Campbellsport, WI as the winner of the 5th annual Cha-ChingTM Money Smart Kids Pledge Challenge.

The Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids Challenge presents K-6 schools in the United States the opportunity to receive a $10,000 grant from Jackson Charitable Foundation to spark financial literacy education at their school, along with $1,000 designated for a philanthropic donation of the school’s choosing. Designed for elementary school educators, families, and community members to showcase their financial literacy commitments, the Challenge fosters virtual collaboration by enabling entrants to vote online daily to increase their school’s chance of winning.

“I love to see communities rallying around financial literacy! With Cha-Ching, students discover the pathway to a bright financial future all through the power of digital content,” said Danielle Robinson, Executive Director, Jackson Charitable Foundation. “Congratulations to the students at Trinity Lutheran as they learn to ‘earn, save, spend and donate’ as the winners of the 2021 Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids Challenge.”

“As a small parochial school, we often miss out on grants and donations that are awarded based on student population. The Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids Contest money we received is a shot in the educational arm that will enable us to access virtual programming through a one-to-one computer initiative that was impossible up to this point. How awesome!” said David Wege, Principal of Trinity Lutheran School.

To celebrate, Trinity Lutheran School hosted a virtual event for students, teachers, and community members featuring a financial literacy activity. As the contest winner, the school intends to use the Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids Challenge grant and donation money as follows:

  • $10,000 grant: The school will introduce students to new platforms for financial literacy—including field trips, guest speakers, and new computers to access online resources.
  • $1,000 donation: The students selected USA Patriots, a nonprofit that brings together wounded veterans through sports.

The Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids Challenge supplements an educational partnership with Discovery Education that provides no-cost digital resources for use in the anywhere classroom. Designed for educators and families to encourage fundamental financial skills in K-6 students with fun and engaging videos, lessons, and activities, Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids offers millions of students the knowledge, tools, and practice they need to make informed decisions to reach their goals and dreams.

Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids resources can be found at www.cha-chingusa.org and on Discovery Education’s recently enhanced K-12 learning platform in the Social Impact Partnerships channel. Every month, Discovery Education adds hundreds of new resources—from ready-to-use activities to immersive videos and Virtual Field Trips to podcasts and curated channels. Each resource is culturally authentic, reflects the diversity of today’s world, and includes embedded supports, like closed captioning, text-to-speech, and language translations.
